Do I have to have a library card to use the library? You need a library card to borrow books, audiobooks, videos and magazines. You don't need a library card to look at library items in the library, use the library catalogue, the Internet or the word processor, or participate in library programs.
Who can have a library card? Anyone can join the Sylvan Lake Municipal Library, including seasonal and temporary residents, visitors, and residents of surrounding communities. Library rates may vary depending on where you live.
How do I get a library card? In order to get a library card, you will need to come to the library with a piece of i.d. that shows your current address (remember in Alberta, the law requires you to change the address on your driver's license within 90 days of moving to a new address), and with cash or a cheque. Children under the age of 12 require a parent/guardian's signature.
How much will it cost? There are two library membership rates. If your community does not appear below, and you would like to know which rate you are eligible for, speak to or email the librarian. Please note that the library is only able to accept cash or cheques.

What if I can't pay? The library's goal is to provide barrier-free access to information to all citizens. If you are unable to pay because you are receiving Social Assistance, Employment Insurance, AISH, or simply cannot afford it, the library membership fee may be waived. You may be asked to show your AISH, SA, or EI card. Gift certificates for free library memberships are also available at the Sylvan Lake Food Bank. The library and its staff will make every attempt to make library services possible for all citizens of its service area, please don't hesitate to ask.
